Infor Gets Ex Oracle President Charles Phillips as New CEO

A quick look at what Charles Phillips was able to do while working for over seven years in Oracle would be more than sufficient to understand why he was named successor of Jim Schaper as CEO of Infor. As one of the two co-presidents of the company, Phillips had taken the role of customer front man, making himself one of Oracle’s most recognizable faces. No matter what others say, no one can doubt the fact that he had been one of the key reasons customers of businesses that Oracle acquired such as Siebel, J.D. Edwards and PeopleSoft, had stuck around even though it meant possibly dealing with potential problems commonly associated with new management. Prior to that, Phillips had also been just as helpful in making those deals possible and ran smoothly till the very end.

Jim Schaper and everyone else in Infor appear to be incredibly enthusiastic about the move of Charles Phillips to their company. Likewise, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison appears to be just as happy with their newly acquired president Mark Hurd, who will still be co-managing the company with the other president, Safra Catz, who is responsible for Oracle’s finance. Hurd will take Phillips’ old role as spokesperson while the latter will continue what he does best with his new company. At Infor, Phillips would probably still be exercising his customer relationship skills full-time, representing Infor in product launches, acquisitions, and other critical events. Infor’s move to take in Phillips in their company is one of the wisest move they have done.
